Cara Corey Designs has a new knit workshop perfect for summer!

The Summer Knit Tote Workshop is a beginner-friendly knitting class, where you will learn to make a basic knit stitch using large circular knitting needles. Then you will seam the bottom of your bag and add homemade braided handles. The finished bag is approximately 12x15 inches.

This stitch actually creates a reversible pattern, so you can wear your bag two ways. And by using the large needles, you will get an airy weave that makes the perfect summer bag for markets or the beach. Once you know how to make the bag, you can adapt the pattern to different sizes and shapes.

Your kit will include:
• 200 feet of 3/16" cotton clothesline rope
• A set of size 50/25 mm circular knitting needles
• Printed instructions

Giant Knit Blanket Workshop at Golden Gate Doulas 5.19.19

Join gather Sunday May 19th at 11a for our Giant Knit Blanket Workshop with Cara Corey Designs. For this class we are headed to Golden Gate Doulas and popping up in their gorgeous family room. Learn how to make a dreamy super thick and cozy knit blanket out of wool roving, plus tips and techniques for caring for these blankets. No knitting experience required! Knit and crochet designer Cara Corey will show you how to use a "table knitting" technique, forming the stitches with your hands rather than using knitting needles. 

In this class you will also learn:

• How to source additional wool roving
• How to graft ends together by needle felting
• How to care for the wool, and use felting to prevent it from fuzzing too much
• Where to buy giant knitting needles (if you decide you want them) and how to make your own giant needles out of PVC pipe

The yarn we provide is enough wool roving to make a blanket approximately 30x50 inches in size with a lot of stretch. Please choose a color from the color swatch photo when you check out. Color choices are: Undyed (Cream), Seal, Granite, Aubergine, Candy Pink, Mallard, Denim, and Claret.

This two hour class includes mimosas and light brunch snacks. Our gracious hosts, Golden Gate Doulas have a beautiful community space in San Francisco’s lower Haight neighborhood for new and expecting moms. No need to be a parent though, this workshop is all inclusive and everyone is welcome! Workshop includes all yarn/materials in price.

Giant Knit Blanket Workshop Recap

We had such a good time at our Giant Knit Blanket Workshop with Cara Carey Designs last night. The thick merino wool was like a cloud and the colors, so good! It was so fun learning the table knitting technique, how to source the materials, and meeting new faces.  Every student was able to finish their blanket in the class too! We had such an overwhelming response to the class we added another on Thursday June 21st at 7p. You can register for that class here. Hurry before it sells out! No knitting experience required.

Level 2 Crochet: Round Rug Workshop

Join us at gather Thursday April 26th at 7p for our Level 2 Crochet: Round Rug Workshop with Cara Corey. If you've mastered the single crochet stitch and feel ready to move on to other stitches, this is the class for you. Learn to make a cute and sturdy round rug with recycled T-shirt yarn. You will master adding height with double crochet and half double crochet stitches, joining stitches to form rounds, and increasing stitches in a pattern to make a flat circle. You will get a good start and possibly finish a round rug, approximately 24 inches in diameter, during the 2 hour class. You can also purchase more yarn to make your rug even larger. Choose from an assortment of colors of yarn when you arrive. Jumbo-sized crochet hook included in the price. Those that have taken our hand crocheted blanket class are perfect candidates for this class (though it is not a pre-requisite...email hello@gathersf.com if you have questions). 

Class also includes wine and snacks and a discount on merchandise in the store that night.
